We’re not waiting for 2050. At DM, we are targeting Net Zero by 2030 and driving down our operational impacts across travel, energy and waste.
Carbon emission reduction
- To encourage low/zero-emission commuting, all staff have access to our Octopus Electric Vehicle and Cycle2Work salary sacrifice scheme post-probation
- There is a car-sharing platform underway, but already we have initiatives in place to reduce single-occupancy journeys and optimise routes
- We want to reduce our carbon emissions caused by business travel, so first we need to assess it. By measuring mileage through Workday in 2025, we now have a baseline upon which to improve in 2026
Energy consumption reduction
- We run regular energy audits across all offices. As a result, we have implemented LED lighting, smart controls and efficiency retrofits
- Partnering with landlords has enabled us to procure renewable electricity wherever possible
- Energy performance is key in our selection of new offices and fit-outs
Waste minimisation
- Our volunteer Green Team runs recycling initiatives and composting programmes, encouraging everyone to take part
- We prioritise eco-friendly suppliers and products; and limit purchase of single-use items
- Documentation is digitised where possible in our journey towards paperless work
CELEBRATING OUR GREEN TEAM
BRINGING OUR PEOPLE ON THE JOURNEY TO SUSTAINABILITY
In line with ISO 140001, we formed a Green Team to actively pursue continuous improvement through initiatives that promote awareness of sustainability.
- On Earth Day, we ran an initiative where colleagues were invited to plant and grow herbs in each of the offices. These were then freely available to use in everyone's lunches
- We ran a 'switch off' competition, where we encouraged staff to switch off electrical items and lights at the end of the day and when rooms weren't in use. Each month, we reported 'most improved office' in our company meeting
- Bins to collect and recycle soft plastic were put in all of our offices
- We introduced food waste bins to separate and dispose of food waste properly
ENERGY & CARBON SNAPSHOT
We are proud to have zero Scope 1 emissions, as we do not operate from any facilities that burn fossil fuels on site. We have successfully reduced Scope 2 emissions to zero by moving away from all purchased electricity that was not renewable. Since 2025, all energy contracts that DM controls have been 100% renewable.
Furthermore, our energy management system is designed to maximise energy efficiency across our offices, regardless of the energy source. We have been able to demonstrate an 18% improvement in energy efficiency across our managed office space from 2024 to 2025.
